Conservation Area Appraisals

Local planning authorities have a statutory obligation to designate as conservation areas places of special architectural or historic interest ‘the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance’ and to develop enhancement proposals for them.

BEAMS has undertaken a wide range of Conservation Area Appraisals, many with associated Management Plans for a number of local authorities within Hertfordshire and beyond. These documents usually follow the guidance produced by English Heritage on Conservation Area Appraisals but we can also adapt them to suit individual needs.

Examples include:

Elstow Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan.
On behalf of Bedford Borough Council

This included recommending buildings within the Conservation Area for inclusion on a ‘Local List’ and properties which may benefit from additional protection via an Article 4(2) Direction
